About Us

We're Heartland Building & Design, LLC, and we've been general contractors for residential remodeling based in Madison, WI, since 1997. If you’re considering a kitchen remodel, an addition to your home or a master bath makeover - we can help you! We offer remodeling services, general construction and will build a custom home for the right client. We offer our customers a wide range of services taking you from start to finish on your project. Our in-house design team will draw plans, offer suggestions, and help with material selections. Then our experienced and friendly field staff will complete your project with attention to detail and respect for your home. We're looking forward to partnering with Dane County for another 25 years to provide quality workmanship, outstanding customer service, and timely completion of projects large and small. We'd like to personally invite you to contact us and let us be the one-stop shop for all of your building needs.

We met Ralph Radix at a home builder’s convention and were very impressed by the up front planning process and drawings and simulations provided in this process. Working with Ralph and his team had been incredible. Communication has been timely and the process went very smoothly. There were a couple of construction surprises which are typical of any remodeling project but Ralph’s team was supportive and were able to quickly adapt to the needs of the project. All the trades that came to help on the project were very professional and courteous. We added on a living room addition and a brand new Tex deck that have greatly improved the value and flow of our home and are grateful we picked HBD and Artisan. Stacey is on the team as a designer was very helpful to run design decisions by and keeps close records of decisions to refer back to when needed. We had such a wonderful experience working with Heartland Building and Design on our bathroom remodel! From the very first phone call all the way through the end of our project, Meg and her team were exceptionally helpful, professional, prompt, and responsive. Meg helped us to design a bathroom that worked with our needs and budget. She struck exactly the right balance of hearing us out on our ideas, explaining options and trade-offs, and giving expert advice and guidance. Crucially, she developed a highly accurate budget and timeline, and her team stuck closely to both, communicating clearly about any minor adjustments that were needed along the way. We were very nervous about budget surprises and overly optimistic timelines given the experiences of other people we know, and that was not at all the case with Heartland. Meg's team of Heartland staff and subcontractors were punctual, respectful, and as unobtrusive as possible given the task. We have a curious cat, and all of the craftsmen were very careful to not accidentally let him escape. Across the board from plumbing to electrical to tile and beyond, we are so happy with the quality of work. My husband and I both work at home and it would have been easy for having contractors in and out all day turn into a major headache, but between Meg's top notch communication about what was happening when, and the contractors timely and respectful presence around our house, everything went far more smoothly than we could have imagined. In short, Meg and the Heartland team are the best! We'll certainly be working with them in future projects.
